Ceiling Soundproofing Solutions

Ceiling Soundproofing - Reduce Impact & Airborne Noise Through Ceilings – Installed by UK Experts

Unwanted sound travelling through ceilings can be frustrating—whether it’s heavy footsteps from above or muffled conversations coming through the floor above. At Silent Treatment Soundproofing Ltd, we offer a range of ceiling soundproofing systems to tackle both impact and airborne noise for domestic and commercial spaces across the UK (excluding Northern Ireland).

We design and install tailored solutions, and we also supply all soundproofing materials for DIY use via our online store.

Option 1: Clip & Furring Channel System for Concrete Ceilings
Option 2: Joist-Based Ceiling Soundproofing System
Option 3: Independent Timber Frame Ceiling (Highest Performance)

Clip & Furring Channel System for Concrete Ceilings

Ideal for properties with solid concrete ceilings and no existing cavity, this system delivers great performance with just 7cm of space loss.

  • Best for: Apartments, conversions, basements
  • Noise types: Airborne and footfall (impact) noise

We begin by removing any existing ceiling lining and mechanically fixing timber battens to the concrete ceiling. Mineral wool insulation is installed between the battens, followed by MuteClips® and furring channels. Layers of SoundBloc plasterboard and Tecsound membrane are applied to provide excellent acoustic isolation, sealed and finished to spec.

Joist-Based Ceiling Soundproofing System

This system works best where timber joists and an accessible cavity are present.

  • Ideal for: Houses with standard joist-and-board ceilings
  • Space required: Approx. 7cm

After removing the existing ceiling, we insert dense 100mm mineral wool into the cavity. Isolation clips and channels are fitted to suspend two layers of acoustic plasterboard, separated by a Tecsound membrane. All gaps are sealed for maximum soundproofing.

Independent Timber Frame Ceiling (Highest Performance)

For spaces with high ceilings or fragile lathe and plaster, this freestanding system is the most effective.

  • Best for: Older buildings, premium projects
  • Performance: Maximum airborne & impact noise control

A full timber frame is built below the existing ceiling and filled with insulation. Clips, channels, Tecsound membrane, and double-layered boards complete the high-performance system.
